UN Secretary-General Guterres welcomes Israel‑Hamas disarmament pact

UN Secretary‑General António Guterres praised a newly announced peace plan that calls for the total disarmament of Hamas and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza. The agreement, presented by U.S. President Donald Trump’s Peace Board, also includes the deployment of an International Stabilisation Force and the transfer of Gaza’s civil administration to a Palestinian National Committee.

Guterres urged an immediate end to hostilities, warning that the conflict is increasingly destabilising global trade, energy markets and food prices. He called for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, the Bab al‑Mandab and Red Sea shipping lanes, and for renewed diplomatic efforts to secure a lasting resolution to the war that has now lasted more than five months.
