UN Secretary-General warns of uncontrolled situation in Palestinian territories

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has warned that the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories is “out of control.” He expressed deep concern regarding the escalating violence in the West Bank and the severe restrictions on humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip.

In the West Bank, Guterres highlighted the impact of widespread closures imposed by Israel, which restrict Palestinian freedom of movement, access to basic services, and livelihoods. He also addressed reports of home demolitions and the potential displacement of residents in Hebron. The UN chief condemned the increasing number of attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinians, reminding Israel of its international legal obligations to protect the Palestinian population and hold perpetrators accountable.

Regarding Gaza, Guterres noted that essential humanitarian aid continues to be severely restricted, complicating relief efforts as the winter season approaches. He called on all parties to immediately cease acts of violence and exercise restraint to prevent further escalation of tensions.
