UN Security Council calls for updated strategies against AI and drone-led terrorism

The United Nations Security Council has called for a modernization of global security strategies to combat the evolving threat of terrorism. During a meeting held on the 25th anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks, the Council emphasized that terrorists are increasingly utilizing advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), drones, satellites, and social media.

In a unanimously adopted press statement, the Council reaffirmed its commitment to countering terrorism, describing it as a serious threat to international peace and security. The Council stressed the necessity of developing an effective global mechanism to address these technological advancements.

The meeting, initiated by France, saw a rare display of unity among the 15 member states, many of whom are often divided by geopolitical conflicts. US Representative Mike Walsh noted that while the Council frequently faces disagreements, there is a consensus on condemning terrorism, as nearly every member nation has been a victim of such violence.
