UN Security Council to Decide on Renewal of Haiti Gang‑Suppression Force

The United Nations Security Council will meet in New York on July 20 to consider extending the mandate of the International Force for the Suppression of Gangs (GSF) in Haiti, which is due to expire in September. The Dominican Republic, represented by Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez, will argue for renewal, emphasizing the need to sustain international support amid Haiti’s deepening political, security and humanitarian crises.

UN officials will present reports from the Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH), the GSF and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, assessing the force’s impact and outlining what is required to help Haiti restore stability and strengthen institutions.
