UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese urges global arms embargo on Israel

UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, called for an immediate worldwide arms embargo on Israel and a halt to all arms trade with the country. In a social‑media post she described the coordinated attacks by Israeli settlers and the army in the West Bank as a "pogrom" against unarmed civilians, noting recent clashes that left one Israeli and four Palestinians dead.

Albanese argued that international law obliges states to stop supplying weapons to Israel until the violence subsides. Her appeal comes amid heightened tensions following night‑time military operations ordered by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in response to the latest surge of violence in the occupied territories.
