UN Sustainable Development Report 2026 says none of the 17 SDGs on track
The UN Sustainable Development Report 2026 finds that none of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is on course to be achieved by the 2030 deadline, with less than 20 % of all targets projected to be met. The report highlights the greatest challenges in Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), Life Below Water (SDG 14), Life on Land (SDG 15) and Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (SDG 16). Small Island Developing States such as Antigua and Barbuda face heightened vulnerability to climate impacts, underscoring financing, governance and data gaps as key obstacles.
Professor Jeffrey D. Sachs, president of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network, said, “Support for sustainable development as the global paradigm remains strong throughout the world…peace is the top priority of our time.” The report also notes that a few countries, notably the United States, have shifted toward active opposition to the multilateral framework, while public surveys across 127 nations show broad backing for continuing the SDG agenda beyond 2030.
The assessment calls for stronger implementation mechanisms, renewed global cooperation and a reformed financial architecture to accelerate progress in the final four years of the 2030 Agenda.
