UN Sustainable Transport Forum Highlights Green Smart Mobility Initiatives

On 8 July 2026, the United Nations hosted a side event on sustainable transport at its New York headquarters as part of the 2026 High‑Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development. The meeting, co‑organized by the Chinese and Turkmenistani permanent missions to the UN, UN DESA and the China International Sustainable Transport Innovation and Knowledge Center, focused on replicable green‑smart mobility solutions and the implementation of the UN Sustainable Transport Decade.

Assistant Secretary‑General for policy coordination Biyog Sandshiel urged governments, international organisations and industry to forge partnerships and accelerate low‑carbon transport projects. Chinese representatives highlighted the country’s role in building railways, ports and other infrastructure across Asia, Africa and Latin America, positioning China as a major contributor to global sustainable mobility. Participants, including multilateral development banks, enterprises and think‑tanks, pledged to share knowledge, data and best practices to create an efficient, inclusive and resilient global transport network.
