UN warns Yemen escalation could cut aid to millions amid worsening humanitarian crisis

The United Nations warned that the recent military escalation in Yemen threatens to deprive millions of people of essential humanitarian assistance. The UN Population Fund reported that more than 22 million Yemenis – about half the population – still need aid, while funding for the 2026 response plan of $71.9 million has secured only 18 % of the required amount.

The escalation includes a Houthi militia ban on navigation linked to Saudi Arabia, attacks on ships and oil facilities, and intensified fighting on several fronts, worsening food insecurity and collapsing health and protection services. In parallel, the Yemeni embassy in Morocco said it is closely monitoring reports of missing Yemenis and possible deaths, coordinating with Moroccan authorities to verify identities and provide consular support.

Both developments underscore the deepening humanitarian emergency and the regional ripple effects of the conflict.
