UN Women report highlights gender inequality in Italy
A new UN Women National Report presented at the Italian Senate reveals that despite women achieving higher educational levels than men, significant economic and professional disparities persist in Italy. The report identifies a gap between formal equality and substantive equality, noting that women work less, face greater career obstacles, hold fewer decision-making roles, and face lower economic security upon retirement.
To address these issues, the report proposes ten operational measures focusing on three priority areas: increasing female labor market participation to foster economic autonomy, promoting a more equitable distribution of family and care responsibilities, and ensuring women have full access to digital skills and opportunities during the digital transition.
