UNA-Puno students denounce irregular enrollment and mandatory fees
Students at the Universidad Nacional del Altiplano (UNA-Puno) in Peru have reported irregularities during the enrollment process for the second semester. Students from the Professional School of Education denounced that authorities are allegedly conditioning enrollment on the payment of an 80-sol fee intended for the ‘Entrada Universitaria’ (University Parade).
Protesters reported that the system prevents virtual registration without proof of this payment, forcing students to wait in long lines starting as early as 4:00 a.m. in freezing temperatures. Additionally, students alleged favoritism, claiming approximately 20 individuals managed to enroll without waiting in line, potentially due to connections with members of the Faculty Council or the Student Center.
Students are demanding that university authorities investigate these mandatory payments and the irregular enrollments to ensure a transparent academic process and prevent these recurring issues in future semesters.
