UNAB report reveals widespread age discrimination in recruitment
A report from the Labor Panel of the Universidad Andrés Bello (UNAB) Institute of Public Policy reveals significant age discrimination in the recruitment process. According to the study, 92% of recruiters have received instructions from companies to discard candidates based on age, even when they meet the required technical profiles.
Specifically, 36% of recruiters reported receiving such requests frequently, while another 36% received them occasionally. Only 8% stated they had never encountered such requests. Furthermore, 84% of experts noted that workers aged 55 and older face significantly fewer job opportunities compared to other age groups.
Recruiters identified technological adaptation as a primary barrier, with 40.4% of respondents citing concerns over the ability of older workers to adopt emerging technologies. Other perceived obstacles include doubts regarding their capacity to learn new skills.
