Unafut confirms 3-0 victory for Herediano over Puntarenas FC

The Unión de Clubes de Fútbol de la Primera División (Unafut) has upheld a decision to award a 3-0 victory to Club Sport Herediano in their opening match of the Apertura 2026 tournament against Puntarenas Fútbol Club (PFC).

PFC filed an appeal regarding the use of an ineligible player, Wálter Cortés Pérez. However, Unafut’s competition department rejected the appeal, stating that PFC failed to prove the player had completed a pending suspension from his previous league. The ruling emphasized that clubs are responsible for verifying that players have no outstanding disciplinary sanctions before registration.
