UNAH receives funding for Yoro classrooms and maintains free transport

The Honduran National Congress has approved the allocation of 70 million lempiras in the 2027 General Budget to construct new classrooms for the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras (UNAH) in Yoro. The project, which will be managed by the Secretaría de Infraestructura y Transporte (SIT), aims to expand access to higher education in the department and reduce the need for students to travel to other cities.

Separately, UNAH has confirmed it will maintain its free student transportation service despite pressure from the transport sector and regulatory demands from the Instituto Hondureño del Transporte Terrestre (IHTT). Transport leaders have questioned the legality of the service's contracting process and its impact on private sector revenue, while the IHTT has called for the formal regulation of university transport operations.
