UNAIDS praises Togo for progress in HIV/AIDS response

UNAIDS multi-country representative Dr. Christian Mouala met with Togo's National Assembly President, Professor Komi Selom Klassou, to review the country's progress in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Mouala commended Togo for its participation in international political declarations and its support for the common African position against the pandemic.

Key health indicators reported by UNAIDS show encouraging results in Togo: approximately 94% of people living with HIV know their status, 93% are receiving treatment, and 85% have achieved viral suppression.

Despite these advancements, challenges remain regarding the prevention of mother-to-child transmission and the need for increased awareness among youth aged 15 to 24. Discussions also emphasized the critical role of Parliament in advocacy, strategic decision-making, and budgetary allocations to meet the goal of ending the epidemic by 2030.
