UNAM and Kyoto Institute host philosophy symposium to strengthen Mexico-Japan ties
The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the Kyoto Institute of Philosophy held a symposium to strengthen collaborative ties between Mexico and Japan through the lens of philosophy and the humanities.
Mary Frances Teresa Rodríguez Van Gort, Director of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters at UNAM, emphasized that philosophy is essential for dialogue and questioning assumptions during times of significant social and technological transformation, such as the rise of artificial intelligence.
Japanese Ambassador Kozo Honsei attended the inauguration, noting the four-century history of relations between the two nations. He highlighted how cooperation has expanded into various sectors, including economy, science, and disaster prevention. The partnership includes academic exchanges and collaboration between UNAM and the University of Kyoto regarding disaster research and linguistic studies.
