UNAM expands scholarship programs and international academic partnerships

The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) is expanding its academic reach through new scholarship initiatives and international partnerships. At the II International Congress of Scholarships and Academic Cooperation UNAM 2026, officials reported that approximately 300,000 students—out of a population of over 370,000—receive some form of financial support. These scholarships, supported by entities like Fundación UNAM, cover essential needs such as food, maintenance, and national or international mobility.

In a separate effort to strengthen regional ties, UNAM has signed a framework collaboration agreement with the Universidad de Los Lagos in Chile. This strategic partnership, facilitated by the UNAM-Latin America Center and the Mexican Embassy in Chile, aims to foster knowledge exchange and international cooperation. The agreement also includes the launch of the Cátedra México ULagos, an initiative designed to promote Mexican culture and academic dialogue within the Chilean university community.
