UNAM hosts international congress on library and information sciences

The International Congress of Library and Information Sciences is being hosted by the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters at UNAM. The event brings together students, faculty, and specialists from UNAM and the Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica to discuss the evolving role of information professionals in a changing technological landscape.

Discussions at the congress and related academic lectures focus on the impact of artificial intelligence, digital literacy, information privacy, and the preservation of local knowledge. Experts emphasize that training for these professionals must extend beyond the classroom to address societal needs and the challenges posed by new algorithms and information access gaps.

Speakers highlighted the importance of libraries as both physical and digital repositories of human memory. There is a call for higher education institutions to optimize learning spaces and techniques to combat declining educational trends, such as those noted in recent PISA results, by fostering critical thinking and proper use of AI tools.
