UNAM suspends classes at Prepa 1 following student confrontation

Academic activities were suspended at the UNAM Escuela Nacional Preparatoria Plantel 1 “Gabino Barreda” in Xochimilco, Mexico City, following a violent confrontation on Wednesday, October 7.

A group of approximately 20 hooded individuals attempted to take control of the campus and administrative offices to demand attention to student grievances, including allegations of harassment and abuse within the institution. The attempt led to a physical struggle between protesters and school staff.

A second-year student was injured during the incident and received medical attention at the school's infirmary. While some students alleged the injury was caused by school administrators, university officials stated they were investigating the cause of the scuffle and noted that the campus remained under institutional control. The Defensoría de los Derechos Universitarios has launched an investigation into the events.
