UNAM's Impulso Naranja highlights culture and arts as drivers of sustainable development
The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) inaugurated the second edition of Impulso Naranja, a university‑wide initiative that places culture, arts and entrepreneurship at the centre of environmental sustainability. Director of University Entrepreneurship Eduardo Urzúa Fernández explained that modern entrepreneurship now emerges from artistic projects, design, architecture and audiovisual work, not only from science and technology.
The event, hosted in the Faculty of Music’s audiovisual hall, offers conferences, workshops, networking fairs and exhibitions. Highlights include the “Second Life of Solar Panels” exhibit, which repurposes decommissioned photovoltaic panels into murals through a collaboration between UNAM’s Institute of Renewable Energies and an international artist collective. Faculty Technical Secretary Mario Alviso Becerril and researcher Laura Mishelle Muñoz González stressed that culture and the arts are now recognised as pillars of development alongside economic, social and environmental goals.
