Unasca launches child road safety campaign in Italy
Unasca, the national union of driving schools, has presented the third edition of the Child Safety in the Car Week at the Italian Chamber of Deputies. Scheduled from November 2 to 8, 2026, the initiative aims to raise awareness among parents and grandparents regarding the correct use of child seats and restraint systems.
The campaign follows concerning statistics from 2025, which reported 33 deaths of children aged zero to 14 in road accidents in Italy, an increase of four compared to the previous year. While overall road fatalities decreased by 162 in 2025, officials warned against complacency.
Infrastructure and Transport Minister Matteo Salvini noted that while recent changes to the Highway Code have had a positive impact, there is a risk of returning to old habits. He also mentioned plans to review and update driver's license examinations by 2026. Unasca Secretary Alfredo Boenzi emphasized that road safety relies on training and risk awareness rather than just fines and regulations.
