UNATRAS urges Italian government to resume transport sector dialogue

UNATRAS, the unitary coordination of national road transport associations including Confartigianato Trasporti, has formally requested the Italian government to resume dialogue with the transport sector. In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and key ministers, the organization seeks to follow up on an agreement reached in May and address outstanding industry issues.

A primary concern is the rising cost of fuel, which continues to impact transport companies and the broader logistics and production chain. While UNATRAS acknowledged government measures regarding excise duty reductions, they emphasized the need for these resources to reach businesses quickly to offset operating costs and facilitate vehicle fleet renewals.

Additional points for discussion include the management of quarterly excise duty refunds, the reconstitution of the permanent transport and logistics table, the operation of a 590 million euro fund for vehicle fleet renewal, and the involvement of industry representatives in discussions regarding the new Highway Code.
