Toulon military sites targeted by unauthorized drone flights

The French Navy has confirmed that several unauthorized drones flew over sensitive military sites in the Toulon region between October 9 and 13. These incidents occurred during the Typhon joint military exercise, which was conducted from October 5 to 16 to test the defense and protection of the Toulon military port.

The unauthorized flights targeted several key locations, including the Toulon naval base, the local site of the Directorate General of Armaments (DGA), and the 54th Artillery Regiment in Hyères. Reports indicate that the drones were often observed at night and were described by sources as “large aircraft.”

In response to the incursions, security measures including anti-drone devices and electromagnetic jamming systems were activated in coordination with internal security forces. While advanced jamming was utilized, authorities have not confirmed if any drones were successfully recovered or neutralized. The French Navy stated that no sensitive infrastructure has been threatened thus far. A judicial investigation has been opened under the authority of the Toulon prosecutor to determine the nature and origin of the drones.
