North Carolina women’s soccer defeats Arizona 2–1

No. 9 North Carolina women’s soccer secured a 2–1 victory over Arizona in Tucson, continuing a challenging western road trip. The Tar Heels (4–1) overcame a scoreless first half, which was the first time this season they failed to score before halftime.

Midfielder Summer Denigan converted a penalty in the 48th minute to give Carolina the lead. The match was played before a record crowd of 1,753 fans at Mulcahy Stadium, the largest in the Arizona Wildcats program history.

Despite the loss, Arizona (2–2–1) showed resilience, becoming only the second team this season to score against North Carolina. Arizona head coach Becca Moros noted the team’s aggressive and gritty performance, while goalkeeper Sofia Cortes-Browne stated the team proved they can compete at a high level against major NCAA programs.
