UNC basketball holds first official practice under Michael Malone
The University of North Carolina men's basketball team held its first official practice of the Michael Malone era. While modern NCAA rules allowed the 2026-27 Tar Heels to work out together prior to the formal session, the practice served as a significant opportunity to observe the team and new coaching staff in action.
Coach Malone emphasized fundamentals and discipline, reportedly telling players, “We are what we repeatedly do.” He maintained high intensity, indicating that players failing to execute drills with flawless fundamentals would be removed from the court. The team is currently preparing for an upcoming exhibition opener against Southern Cal in Greensboro, followed by a regular season opener against Western Carolina on November 2.
