UNC kicker Rece Verhoff granted fifth-year eligibility and returns for 2026 season
A Colorado court ruled that members of the class of 2022, including UNC place‑kicker Rece Verhoff, are entitled to a fifth season of eligibility. Judge Charlotte Sweeney issued the decision, allowing Verhoff—who led the Tar Heels in scoring in 2025 with 77 points—to rejoin the team for a fifth year. UNC announced his return on X, and he was seen on the practice field the following day. Verhoff previously set a program record with a 57‑yard field goal against Wake Forest and tied for the longest ACC kick last season. His career includes Honorable Mention All‑ACC honors, a perfect extra‑point record, and multiple clutch performances at both UNC and his former school, Marshall. The eligibility ruling restores a proven, long‑range specialist to North Carolina’s special‑teams unit for the upcoming season.
