UNC leadership defends Bill Belichick following football investigation

University of North Carolina leadership has issued a formal defense of the football program following a seven-week independent investigation. Chancellor Lee Roberts confirmed that the administration and the board of trustees continue to support head coach Bill Belichick, noting that the coach understands the expectations regarding conduct and behavior.

The investigation follows a period of instability for the Tar Heels, which included the recent resignations of general manager Michael Lombardi and defensive coordinator Steve Belichick. The program has faced scrutiny due to underwhelming on-field performance and off-field distractions since Belichick’s hiring last offseason.
