Maryland women's basketball defeats North Carolina in exhibition

Maryland Terrapins North Carolina Tar Heels women's college basketball Kate Harpring NCAA exhibition

No. 20 Maryland defeated No. 12 North Carolina 72-68 in a preseason exhibition game held at the XFINITY Center in College Park.

Freshman Kate Harpring led North Carolina with 29 points, including three 3-pointers, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Despite Harpring's performance and a late rally by the Tar Heels, Maryland secured the victory. Maryland's Nyla Brooks contributed 14 points, including three 3-pointers, to help lead the Terrapins.

Maryland coach Brenda Frese noted that the exhibition served as a measuring stick for her roster ahead of their official season opener against South Carolina. The game allowed Maryland to test its bench depth, utilizing 11 players throughout the contest.
