Uncía faces river contamination from mining activity

The municipality of Uncía is facing significant environmental challenges due to the contamination of its primary water sources. Mayor Ademar Gutiérrez reported that the Pacula and Centenario rivers, which flow through the center of the city, show high levels of pollution linked to regional mining activities.

While the number of formally established mining companies in the area is not considered high, the impact on water resources remains a critical issue. Local authorities are calling for coordinated action between municipal, departmental, and national levels to establish responsibilities and implement mitigation measures to protect the city's water supply.
