UNCA Rector defends authenticity of Edith Maldonado's degree
Gloria Martínez Blanco, Rector of the Universidad Nacional de Caaguazú (UNCA), has confirmed that Edith Diana Maldonado Fernández is a legitimate graduate of the institution. The university clarified that Maldonado graduated in 2016 and is officially recorded in their alumni registry.
The controversy arose after Maldonado's name appeared on a list of allegedly irregular titles issued by the Comptroller General of the Republic. The university maintains that it had already officially informed the Comptroller regarding Maldonado's status on August 31.
Martínez attributed the confusion to a potential error in the SIGMEC system involving the acronyms UNA and UNCA. The Rector stated, “It is a real degree and UNCA has not issued any false degrees,” and noted that the university is preparing formal documentation to clear the matter. Maldonado has requested greater rigor in the handling of academic data following the publication of her name without prior verification.
