UNCF President Michael L. Lomax to step down after 24 years

Michael L. Lomax, the longtime president of the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), has announced he will step down from his role as president and CEO next summer. During his 24-year tenure, Lomax is credited with raising more than $4 billion to support historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). His leadership included the creation of a pooled endowment for these institutions and increasing their visibility among policymakers and philanthropists.

Reflecting on the evolution of the sector, Lomax noted that while HBCUs were once viewed by some as being in the past, the institutions are currently experiencing a period of renaissance and renewed energy. The UNCF is now beginning the search for a successor to lead the organization.
