Uncomfortable Cinema film festival announces award winners

The Uncomfortable Cinema film festival has announced its winners across several competitive programs. In the Impact competition, the documentary ‘You Can Steal This Report!’ by directors Carl Deal and Tia Lessin was selected as the winner. The film focuses on the work of independent journalist Amy Goodman and highlights the importance of press freedom in the United States.

Nathan Grossman’s ‘Amazomania’ received a special mention in the Impact category for its re-examination of footage from an expedition to the Amazon rainforest. In the Discoveries program, which features works from emerging directors, Déni Oumar Pitsaev’s film ‘Imago’ was named the winner. The film documents the director’s return to visit relatives who fled Chechnya.

Other recognized films include ‘The Bear Problem’ and the short film ‘Amorfofalas,’ which won in the newly established student competition. Selected films remain available for viewing in cinemas and online until October 25, after which the audience award winner will be announced.
