Unconventional AI acquires Israeli startup NeuReality
Unconventional AI, a startup valued at $4.5 billion, has announced the acquisition of Israeli chip manufacturer NeuReality in an undisclosed cash-and-stock deal. The acquisition aims to accelerate the development of specialized computing hardware designed to improve energy efficiency and reduce the high costs associated with current AI processing.
Led by entrepreneur Naveen Rao, who previously founded Nervana Systems (acquired by Intel) and MosaicML (acquired by Databricks), Unconventional AI intends to use NeuReality’s engineering expertise to transition from experimental prototypes to commercial products. The deal is expected to bring approximately 40 Israeli employees into the company, though some administrative roles may be eliminated.
The acquisition is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026. NeuReality’s NR1 architecture, which focuses on lowering data transmission costs during AI inference, is expected to play a key role in Unconventional AI’s hardware roadmap.
