UNCTAD-ISAR session addresses international accounting and sustainability standards

The 43rd session of the United Nations Intergovernmental Working Group of Experts on International Accounting Standards and Reporting (UNCTAD-ISAR) is being held in Geneva from September 30 to October 2, 2026. The session focuses on international accounting standards, the financial information needs of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), and the integration of financial reporting with sustainability disclosures.

Peru is presiding over the session, with its Ministry of Economy and Finance sharing progress on modernizing its National Accounting System and aligning it with international standards. Discussions include the relationship between financial data and sustainability reports.

Cameroon is utilizing the forum to highlight efforts to improve the quality of financial and sustainability information to boost investor confidence and facilitate development financing. Following a 2024 diagnostic supported by UNCTAD, Cameroon is seeking technical assistance to strengthen its institutional framework, train professionals, and improve the production of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) data.
