Underground dance pop sees emergence of new electroclash-inspired sound

A new movement in underground dance pop is emerging, characterized by a blend of cloud rap, 2010s EDM, and hyperpop. This sound, described as simultaneously dirty, sweet, and distorted, is being linked to a modern reimagining of electroclash.

Key artists associated with this trend include Snow Strippers, Frost Children, MGNA Crrrta, and Fcukers. The aesthetic is also present in the work of Slayyyter, Ninajarichi, Six Sex, and Tiffany Day, as well as underground figures like Cannelle, Suzy Sheer, and Joey Cash.

The cultural shift was highlighted at the Palomosa Festival in Montreal, which featured a lineup including MGMT, fakemink, Xaviersobased, Thaiboy Digital, POiSON GiRLFRiEND, and Dylan Brady. Observers noted that the genre taps into a generational zeitgeist, moving beyond the traditional indie sleaze era.
