Understory High Film Festival showcases Far North Queensland talent
The fourth annual Understory High Film Festival has selected 25 finalist films from a record 71 submissions. The event showcases emerging screen talent from eight schools across Far North Queensland, including students from Cairns, the Atherton Tablelands, and Townsville.
Participants in years 7 to 12 submitted short films spanning various genres, such as horror and stories of identity. Judges Kate Boylan-Ascione and Jas Shennan noted the high standard of filmmaking, evaluating entries on storytelling, camerawork, editing, sound quality, and music.
The festival aims to connect young people with the local screen industry and provide creative pathways for future professionals.
