UNDP and NEC partner to use AI for nature conservation
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and NEC Corporation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to utilize digital technologies, including artificial intelligence, for the conservation of natural capital and climate change response.
The partnership aims to combine UNDP’s global development expertise with NEC’s advanced digital technologies to promote nature-positive and climate-resilient development. Key areas of collaboration include using environmental data to assess and enhance the resilience of AI and digital infrastructure, such as data centers, as well as local communities. The two organizations also plan to work on building sustainable international supply chains through cooperation with local communities.
Initial joint activities include the publication of a white paper on improving resilience through environmental data. Additionally, the parties will conduct workshops in Ethiopia using the CropScope agricultural ICT platform to help coffee farmers adapt to climate change through data-driven farming practices.
