UndreamedPanic releases Pokémon Gamma Emerald after two-year solo development
Solo developer UndreamedPanic has released Pokémon Gamma Emerald, a fan-made remake of the third-generation Pokémon Emerald edition, into early access. Unlike traditional ROM hacks, the project was built from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5, featuring a 2.5D aesthetic, a day-night cycle, and custom music and animations.
After two years of development—including 18 months of 12-hour workdays—the developer announced an immediate hiatus from the project. UndreamedPanic expressed frustration with community reception, noting that many users dismissed the extensive technical work as a simple mod or ROM hack. The developer stated on X that they will not be fixing bugs or addressing project issues for the time being, citing a need for a break from the workload and community criticism.
