Uneal approves 50% quota reservation for public school students

The State University of Alagoas (Uneal) has approved a new quota policy that reserves 50% of its vacancies for students from the public school system. The measure, published in the Official Gazette, is set to take effect in 2027.

To qualify, students must have completed the 6th through 9th grades of elementary school and all of high school within the public network. Within the reserved 50%, seats will be distributed among priority groups, including self-declared Black, mixed-race, Indigenous, Quilombola, refugees, and asylum seekers, as well as people with disabilities, transgender individuals, Roma people, rural settlers, and the elderly.

University Rector Odilon Máximo stated that the 2027 Unified Selection System (Sisu) should already incorporate these new rules. The policy will also extend to scholarships, internships, and other internal university calls.
