UNEP Ambassador investigates sustainable denim production in Tunisia
The production of denim is a resource-intensive process within the global fashion industry, which is among the world's most polluting sectors. According to the brand Levi’s, manufacturing a single pair of jeans can require up to 3,800 liters of water.
Amber Valletta, a model and Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), recently visited denim factories in Tunisia to investigate sustainable manufacturing practices. Her visit, documented in a new UNEP production, highlights the complex global value chain involving resource extraction, manufacturing, and transport, while exploring how the industry can operate within environmental limits.
