Denmark's Mors and Fur fossil sites join UNESCO World Heritage list

The UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Busan added the moler fossil cliffs of Hanklit on Mors and Knudeklint on Fur to the World Heritage List. The sites contain exceptionally well‑preserved 55‑56 million‑year‑old fossils of fish, birds, turtles and insects, offering valuable insight into early Cenozoic marine life. Danish culture minister Zenia Stampe highlighted the scientific importance, while Museum Mors director Anders Have Espersen called the designation a strong recognition of the region’s international significance. Mors municipality mayor Jens Dahlgaard watched the announcement via livestream and said he shed a tear, describing the decision as “really big”. The same UNESCO session also inscribed the archaeological site of Sebastia on the northern West Bank, extending the list’s global reach.
