UNESCO and regional institutions launch AI literacy and skills initiatives

UNESCO’s Regional Office in Santiago, in collaboration with Universidad Alberto Hurtado, is hosting a seminar titled “Critical Literacy in the Era of AI: Understanding, Evaluating, and Acting.” The event, part of the II Artificial Intelligence Week and the World Media and Information Literacy Week, aims to foster regional dialogue on the challenges and opportunities AI presents for education, critical thinking, and citizenship.

The seminar also commemorates the 25th anniversary of UNESCO’s Information for All Programme (IFAP). It features experts from Chile, Argentina, and Colombia to discuss the ethical and responsible use of technology in society.

In a separate regional effort, the “La Nube” Technological Pole in Concepción del Uruguay, Argentina, has opened registrations for a free training program called “Skills that Transform.” This initiative, supported by Eidos Global and Accenture, focuses on enhancing employability through communication, problem-solving, and the ethical application of AI in the workplace. The virtual course is designed for individuals aged 18 and older to strengthen their professional profiles.
