UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Rhön launches sustainability portal
The UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Rhön has launched a new digital sustainability portal to centralize data regarding the region's development. The platform provides information, key figures, and indicators across various fields, including nature and climate protection, sustainable tourism, environmental education, regional value creation, mobility, and municipal development.
Dr. Doris Pokorny, representing the three administrative offices of the reserve, stated that the portal aims to make progress visible and identify areas for potential improvement. The tool is designed for citizens, municipalities, educational institutions, associations, and political decision-makers. It currently features 50 indicators from economic and social sectors to track the region's progress as a model for sustainable development.
In conjunction with these digital efforts, local initiatives such as the 'Biosphere Bike Tour' continue to explore sustainable development on the ground. These activities highlight how municipalities and citizens in the Bavarian and Hessian Rhön work to balance climate protection and biodiversity with economic growth and quality of life.
