UNESCO heritage sites and traditions highlighted in Italian cultural events

Various Italian communities and UNESCO World Heritage sites are organizing events to discuss the preservation of cultural heritage, ranging from intangible traditions to urban planning ideals.

In Monza, the event ‘Dialoghi Immateriali’ will bring together six communities dedicated to protecting UNESCO-listed intangible heritage. These include Italian opera singing, Cremonese violin making, manual bell ringing, hunting horn playing, truffle hunting, and traditional Italian cuisine. The initiative focuses on the dedication required to pass these specialized skills through generations.

In Pienza, a conference titled ‘Costruire Sognando’ examined the concept of ‘ideal cities’ within the UNESCO framework. The discussion compared Renaissance urban visions, such as those in Pienza and Urbino, with 20th-century industrial models like Ivrea, which was shaped by Adriano Olivetti’s vision of integrating industry, housing, and social services. Participants proposed the creation of a national network to connect these diverse heritage sites.
