UNESCO Launches Free Global AI Ethics Course as Geneva Positions Itself as AI Governance Hub

UNESCO, together with Coursera and LG AI Research, has released a free Massive Open Online Course on the Ethics of AI. The MOOC translates UNESCO’s Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence—endorsed by 193 countries—into practical learning for developers, researchers and institutions, featuring insights from experts at Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Toronto and the Alan Turing Institute.

At the same time, Geneva is being promoted as a strategic platform for worldwide AI governance. Swiss National Councillor Simone de Montmollin argues that the city’s concentration of diplomatic bodies, scientific organisations and high‑quality data resources enables it to host and shape discussions on trustworthy AI, citing the upcoming UN Global Dialogue on AI Governance, the European Conference for Computational Biology and a planned 2027 global AI summit.
