The seventh national meeting of Italy's UNESCO MAB Biosphere Reserves has concluded in the Sila Biosphere Reserve, hosted and coordinated by the Sila National Park. The event brought together representatives from Italian reserves, institutions, experts, and youth groups to strengthen collaboration and develop shared strategies for protecting natural and cultural heritage.
Participants engaged in thematic discussions regarding territory governance, scientific research, environmental education, sustainable tourism, and local community involvement. The meeting focused on sharing best practices to balance environmental protection with the needs of local communities, aiming to promote sustainable development models across various Italian territories, from the Alps to the islands.
Looking ahead, the Ticino Val Grande Verbano Biosphere Reserve has been selected by the national technical committee to host the next national meeting in 2027. This upcoming event will cover an area spanning the Lombardy and Piedmont regions, involving over 200 municipalities.
