World Teachers Day marks 60 years of professional status recommendations

World Teachers Day is observed globally on October 5, marking the 60th anniversary of the UNESCO and ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers. This milestone highlights the ongoing need for professional recognition, adequate resources, and improved working conditions for educators worldwide.

Various nations and organizations are marking the occasion with specific actions. In Croatia, 19 educators from the Bjelovarsko-Bilogorska County received awards for their contributions to the educational system. In the Maldives, the company The Hawks distributed refueling vouchers to schools, while political leaders called for increased cooperation between parents and teachers.

In Chad, President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno honored teachers and called for a national dialogue to reform the education system. Meanwhile, in Spain, the ANPE union is campaigning for political stability in education laws and better purchasing power for teachers. The day also serves as a platform to discuss modern challenges, including the impact of artificial intelligence on pedagogy and the need for teachers to adapt to digital transformations.
