Unesp professor attacked in Presidente Prudente after offering ride

A 44-year-old Unesp professor was the victim of an attempted murder in Presidente Prudente after offering a ride to a man in need. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning when the professor encountered a 36-year-old butcher who had fallen on Salim Farah Avenue near a meatpacking plant.

While driving the man to a local Basic Health Unit (UBS) for medical assistance, the passenger reportedly entered a state of mental distress. Upon arriving at the health center, the man attacked the professor with a knife, striking him twice in the neck. Despite severe bleeding, the professor managed to honk his vehicle's horn, alerting medical staff who promptly called emergency services.

The victim was transported to the Hospital Regional de Presidente Prudente with multiple lacerations to the left cervical region and injuries to his hands. He required emergency suturing to control active hemorrhaging and remains under the care of general and vascular surgery teams.

Police identified the attacker using documents found in the vehicle. The suspect was located at his residence and has since confessed to the stabbing.
