UNFICYP facilitates religious visits to build trust in Cyprus

The United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) stated that facilitating religious visits serves as a long-standing mechanism to build trust between the two communities and overcome the island's division.

UNFICYP spokesperson Aleem Siddique reported that 80 Turkish Cypriots recently visited the Hala Sultan Tekke in Larnaca via two buses. The visit and the crossing procedures were completed smoothly. Siddique noted that the mission facilitates religious visits in both directions to allow people access to sites of faith and cultural heritage.

Munehiko Harada, UNFICYP Political Affairs Officer, emphasized that such initiatives are a vital part of the mission's work to strengthen relations and create conditions that bring the two communities closer together.
