Unfold House designer introduces folding prefab tiny home

Designer Li Cheng has introduced the Unfold House, a 482-square-foot prefab tiny home priced at $80,000. The structure is designed to fold into a standard shipping container to reduce transportation costs, a common obstacle in the prefab housing market.

The design utilizes a fixed central core containing plumbing and electrical systems, allowing the walls and roof to tuck inward for transit. Once unfolded, the home features 12-foot ceilings, a kitchen, a bathroom, laundry space, and room for a king-size bed. While intended to improve housing affordability by lowering shipping expenses, the practical viability of such homes remains subject to local zoning, land access, and utility requirements.
