UNI 11224:2026 standard for fire detection maintenance takes effect

The new UNI 11224:2026 standard, which governs the initial control, surveillance, periodic maintenance, and general verification of automatic fire detection systems, officially came into effect on July 9, 2026. This updated national reference replaces the previous UNI 11224:2019 version.

The new regulation incorporates technological advancements in detection systems and aligns with the regulatory framework established by the September 1, 2021, Decree. Key changes include a reduction in the timeframe for completing general system verifications from six years to three years.

Additionally, the standard modifies detector verification methods, moving away from type fire testing in favor of manufacturer-based device revision and replacement. The updated guidelines also place greater emphasis on managing system obsolescence, component reliability, spare parts availability, and technological compatibility for older installations.
